Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram, often referred to as an "echo," is a crucial diagnostic tool used to assess the structure and function of the heart. At Houston Cardiovascular Care, we provide state-of-the-art echocardiogram services to help us obtain detailed and accurate information about your heart's health. Below, we outline our echocardiogram services and how they can benefit your cardiovascular well-being.

An echocardiogram is a non-invasive imaging test that uses sound waves (ultrasound) to create detailed images of your heart. This procedure allows us to visualize the heart's chambers, valves, and blood flow patterns, providing essential information about your cardiac function and structure.

Benefits of Echocardiogram

Precise Diagnosis

Echocardiograms provide detailed images, aiding in the accurate diagnosis of heart conditions, such as valvular disease, heart muscle disorders, and congenital heart defects.

Treatment Guidance

Echocardiogram results guide treatment decisions, helping us develop personalized treatment plans tailored to your specific cardiac needs.

Monitoring

For individuals with known heart conditions, regular echocardiograms are essential for monitoring the effectiveness of treatment and tracking changes in heart function over time.

The Echocardiogram Procedure

Here's what you can expect during an echocardiogram procedure:

Preparation

You'll be asked to change into a hospital gown and lie on an examination table. Small, adhesive electrodes will be attached to your chest to monitor your heart's electrical activity. A colorless gel is applied to your chest to facilitate sound wave transmission.

Transducer Placement

A transducer, which emits and receives sound waves, will be moved gently across your chest. The transducer sends sound waves into your body and captures the echoes to create images of your heart.

Image Acquisition

Our technician will acquire images of your heart from various angles and positions, providing a comprehensive view of its structure and function.

Analysis

The recorded images will be analyzed by our cardiologist, who will assess your heart's size, shape, valves, and blood flow patterns.

Results

The results of your echocardiogram will be discussed with you, and if necessary, further diagnostic tests or treatment options will be recommended.
