Dr. Abdelkader Almanfi
MD, FACC, FSCAI
Structural Heart Cardiologist at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center with expertise in Interventional Cardiology, Structural Heart and Medical Education.
15 years ago, I embarked on a journey to pursue my dream, leaving behind my homeland of Libya to become a highly skilled interventional cardiologist in the United States. Despite being told by many that it was nearly impossible and facing countless obstacles, I persevered. Arriving in the USA with nothing but my medical degree and a profound dream, I knew no one here.
I immersed myself in a new language and culture, mastering every interventional procedure under the guidance of exceptional mentors. Over the past four years, I've had the privilege of assisting thousands of patients. Stepping out of my comfort zone was essential; it's what molded me into the physician I am today.

At Houston Cardiovascular Care, we provide a comprehensive range of treatments, including cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, stent placement, heart valve repair or replacement, and cardiac rehabilitation programs. Our expert team tailors treatments to address each patient's specific needs and condition.
The duration of a cardiovascular treatment procedure varies depending on the complexity of the intervention. While some procedures, like cardiac catheterization, may take only an hour or two, others, such as open-heart surgery, can require several hours. Your cardiologist will discuss the estimated duration and recovery process with you before the procedure.
The recovery period following a cardiovascular treatment depends on the type of procedure performed and your individual health status. Some patients may experience mild discomfort, swelling, or fatigue, which typically improve within a few days to weeks. Your medical team will provide personalized post-procedure instructions and may recommend cardiac rehabilitation to aid in your recovery and enhance your overall well-being.
Like any medical procedure, cardiovascular treatments carry some degree of risk. Potential risks may include bleeding, infection, allergic reactions to medications or contrast dyes, blood clots, or damage to blood vessels or surrounding organs. However, our experienced medical team takes every precaution to minimize these risks and ensures patient safety throughout the treatment process. Before undergoing any procedure, your cardiologist will thoroughly discuss the potential risks and benefits with you, addressing any concerns you may have.
