MitraClip

MitraClip treatment is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat mitral valve regurgitation, a condition where the heart's mitral valve does not close properly, leading to blood leaking backward into the heart. The MitraClip device is a small clip that is implanted on the mitral valve leaflets to improve valve function and reduce regurgitation.

Our Expertise

Our esteemed cardiologist, leads our experienced healthcare team specializes in MitraClip treatment, offering advanced expertise in performing this minimally invasive procedure. Led by experienced cardiologists and cardiac surgeons, we are dedicated to providing personalized care and achieving optimal outcomes for patients with mitral valve regurgitation.

Benefits of MitraClip

Improved Valve Function

MitraClip treatment improves mitral valve function by reducing the backward flow of blood into the heart. This helps alleviate symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and heart palpitations, leading to improved quality of life for patients.

Minimally Invasive

The procedure is minimally invasive, requiring only a small incision in the groin area or chest. This results in shorter recovery times, less pain, and reduced risk of complications compared to traditional open-heart surgery.

Avoidance of Open-heart Surgery

MitraClip treatment offers an alternative to open-heart surgery for patients who are not candidates for or prefer to avoid more invasive procedures. It provides effective treatment for mitral valve regurgitation while minimizing the risks associated with surgery.

The MitraClip Procedure

Here's what you can expect during a MitraClip monitoring procedure:

Preparation

The patient is prepared for the MitraClip procedure, which may involve preoperative tests and discussions with the medical team. Anesthesia options, such as general anesthesia or conscious sedation, are discussed and chosen based on the patient's health and preferences.

Access

A small incision is made in the groin area to access the femoral vein. Alternatively, in some cases, access may be obtained through a small incision in the chest.

Guidewire Insertion

A thin guidewire is inserted through the femoral vein and guided to the heart under fluoroscopic guidance. This wire serves as a pathway for the catheter and MitraClip device.

Catheter Placement

A catheter containing the MitraClip device is advanced through the femoral vein and guided to the heart. The catheter is carefully positioned in the left atrium, which is the upper chamber of the heart.

Clip Deployment

Once in the left atrium, the MitraClip device is positioned across the mitral valve, which is located between the left atrium and the left ventricle. The clip is then deployed, grasping the mitral valve leaflets together to reduce regurgitation.

Assessment

he position and function of the MitraClip are assessed using echocardiography (ultrasound imaging) to ensure proper placement and reduction of mitral valve regurgitation.

Additional Clips (if necessary)

In some cases, multiple MitraClip devices may be implanted to further reduce regurgitation. The decision to implant additional clips is based on the severity of the regurgitation and the anatomy of the mitral valve.

Closure and Recovery

Once the MitraClip procedure is completed, the catheter is removed, and the incision site is closed. Patients are typically monitored in a recovery area for a short period before being discharged home. Most patients experience a rapid recovery and can resume normal activities shortly after the procedure. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor the effectiveness of the MitraClip and the patient's overall heart health.
